- myocardial ischemia

Localization

- coronary arteries
- aorta and its major branches

Synopsis

- severe concentric thickening of intima
- proliferation of spindle-shaped cells (myofibroblasts)
- abundant extracellular matrix
- intima densely fibrotic and hyalinized
- not involvement of the media and/or the adventitia

Differential diagnosis

- atheroma

  • inflammation, foam cells, cholesterol clefts
