- sweat gland derived

- hair follicles : hair follicle tumors > pilar tumors
- sebaceous glands : cutaneous sebaceous tumors

Diagnosis by architectural pattern

- cystic adnexal tumors
- basaloid adnexal tumors
- squamoid adnexal tumors
- glandular adnexal tumors

Patterns in sweat gland tumors

- cystic adnexal tumors

- basaloid adnexal tumors

- squamoid adnexal tumors

  • solid pink or clear or squamoid proliferation in epidermis and/or dermis +/- cystic change : acrospiroma

- tadpoles / Paisley tie syringoma

- dermal nodule with variable mixture of cords / chains / tubules and chondromyxoid stroma mixed tumor : chondroid syringoma

Diagnosis (examples)

- papillary projection in adnexal tumors

  • hidradenoma papilliferum
  • syringocystadenoma papilliferum

- glandular cavities

  • hidradenoma papilliferum
  • syringocystadenoma papilliferum

- double epithelial layers with basal myoepithelial cells

  • syringocystadenoma papilliferum
