gastric marginal zone B-cell lymphoma

Thursday 14 June 2007

Digital case

- HPC:304 : gastric MALT lymphoma / gastric marginal zone lymphoma (mucosal biopsies)
- HPC:313 : Minimal residual disease after treated gastric MALT lymphoma
- HPC:319 : Gastric MALT lymphoma / Gastric marginal zone lymphoma (fundic mucosal biopsies)

Definition: Gastric extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MZL-MALT) is speculated to be immune mediated and is notable for responding to treatment by Helicobacter pylori eradication.

Approximately 70% of gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas can be successfully treated with H. pylori eradication.

However, the gastric MZL-MALT with t(11;18)(q21;q21) has been shown to be resistant to treatment by H. pylori eradication.

- translocation t(11;18)(q21;q21)

  • The translocation t(11;18)(q21;q21) characteristic of MALT lymphoma is recognized as a marker for H. pylori independency, but this marker is found in only a half of the MALT lymphomas resistant to H. pylori eradication.

- trisomy 3 (17492756#)

Genomic imbalances are associated with H. pylori independency in t(11;18) negative gastric MALT lymphomas. (17492756)
