Micropapillary Carcinoma


Definition: The 2015 WHO Classification of Lung Tumors following the 2011 ASLC/ATS/ERS classification of lung adenocarcinoma describes the micropapillary pattern of lung adenocarcinoma (MPA) as a variant, which along with other variants, should be reported by semiquatitative estimation in 5% increments. it has a poorer survival than non-papillary by stage (79% vs. 93%.


- 2 histologic subtypes of lung adenocarcinomas


- Composed of small micropapillae without fibrovascular cords
- This pattern is often seen in combination with true papillary carcinoma
- TTF-1(+) and thyroglobulin(-)
