Conjunctival carcinomas are defined asmicroinvasive with ≤0.2 mm invasion of the chorion (miSCC) or over 0.2 mm (invasive SCC).
Squamous cell carcinoma of the conjunctiva (SCCC) is a relatively common cancer in Africa. About one third of the total cases of SCCC occurring in Africa are HIV-related.

- Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is an autosomal recessive disease with ophthalmic, dermatologic, and neurologic manifestations. Ophthalmological changes are described in up to 100% of XP patients.
