Definition: Focal accumulations of neutrphils.

Etiology

- systemic sepsis

- viral hepatitis

- AIDS (9214469)

- hepatic allografts (44%) (9828217, 9214469)

  • perfusion injury in liver allografts (graft ischemia) (10%)
  • viral infections
  • bacterial infections
  • fungal infections (27%)
  • biliary obstruction/cholangitis (15%)
  • ischemia and sepsis (3%)
  • no explanation (26%)
