orbital meningoencephalocele
12 January 2012Definition: Orbital meningoencephalocele is a rare congenital abnormality caused by a defect of the cranio-orbital bones that usually manifests soon after birth as a soft, cystic fullness in the superomedial canthal area with associated exophthalmos.
An orbital approach may be appropriate for a few selected cases in which no bone defect is found on computed tomography.
Orbital meningoencephalocele should be included in the differential diagnosis of isolated congenital conjunctival cystic (...) -

orbital giant cell fibroblastoma
2 December 2009Giant cell fibroblastoma, a benign mesenchymal tumor of infancy, is rarely encountered within the orbital region. This lesion is considered to be a distinct, non-metastasizing tumor, but its clinical management may be very difficult, because of its invasive nature and potential for recurrence.
Giant cell fibroblastoma is a phenotypic variant of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans sharing the same COL1A1/PDGFB fusion gene.
